Just as the United Kingdom was exercising their right to vote, an $85 million (£65 million) penthouse exchanged hands to become the most expensive one sold in London for the year of 2019. While not the all-time record-holder, the property without a doubt came with a very hefty price tag.

The penthouse is also the most expensive one ever to be sold in the luxury residences.

The six-bedroom residence located at the Belgravia Gate on Grosvenor Crescent was nabbed by a still-unnamed millionaire from Hong Kong. The buyer is reportedly is in his mid-30s and paid an approximate £10 million just on stamp duty tax.

Spanning a spacious 9,800 square feet on two floors, the duplex boasts of having interiors designed by the New York-based architecture firm Thomas Juul-Hansen.

The new resident of the lavish pad will get to enjoy a master bedroom suite that spans the entire building’s depth.

Located on the penthouse’s upper floor, the area also notably includes His and Her en suite bathrooms as well as another master bathroom. There are also four more bedroom suites.

Downstairs, the pad boasts of having a spacious formal dining room that can seat 16 people, a separate family kitchen as well as a cocktail bar. Meanwhile, the main reception room opens up to more space outside in a rooftop terrace.

The ‘ultra-high-end’ Belgravia Gate is made up of a dozen prime private residences that can rival that of One Hyde Park’s.

The property was created from four Grade II-listed 19th-century townhouses that were built by Thomas Cundy III. The building remains a testament to its historical significance while its interiors have been designed to fit the 21st century.

As can be expected, the penthouse comes with packed with all kinds of premium decor from sculptures to crystal lighting fixtures

The current record-holder for being the most expensive flat in London is the penthouse at One Hyde Park. Its purchase even caused quite a stir back in 2014 primarily because of its price: $180 million (£140 million).

It’s worth noting though that the final amount seems to vary depending on the source with some saying that the actual price went up to the $237-million mark. The residential and retail complex in central London’s Knightsbridge area, which is considered to be one of the city’s two international retail centers.
